I was just wondering if you could possibly pass this on to Mrs Lassetter. I attended Blidworth Oaks when it was called Robert Jones. My name is Amber Loren Hornsby, and I attended this school from 1999 - 2004 (approximately) and I recall her being Head Teacher of the Primary School then. This is more of an e-mail to just update the school on my progress as such, as I don't expect ex pupils often get in contact. I have also attached a copy of a photograph from when I left infants school.
Due to the fantastic start I had at this school, I have ended up at Cardiff University. I'm now 19 (almost 20!) and are currently in my first year at Cardiff. I am currently studying to complete a masters in Astrophysics. I'm actively involved as a STEM ambassador and I do hope this will help me inspire the occasional child to take an interest in Science. So hopefully I can eventually give something back.
I hear Mrs Lassetter is retiring, so I would also like to wish her luck for her new adventure.
Amber Loren Hornsby
Reply from Mrs Lassetter:
I am very encouraged to find you are doing so well!
I remember that in your early days at school we had an Ofsted Inspection and you came, with some other new starters, to the front of assembly to say how excited you were to be starting school. I’m so glad your enthusiasm for education has continued.
You were always a very sociable little girl and I’m sure that has continued too – which must mean you are enjoying university! My cousin lives in Cardiff and I know it’s a great place to live.
Although, after 16 years, I will be very sad to be leaving Blidworth Oaks I am also excited at the prospect of having more time and opportunities to develop life further. My years in Blidworth have been very rewarding!
It’s lovely to hear from you and I would like to encourage you to go on our web-site from time to time and leave a comment on the guest book.
Keep up the great work and have fun in your career.

I would like to say how much we enjoyed visiting the school on Saturday, meeting you and your colleagues and seeing the work you and the children are doing. Please pass on our particular thanks to Mrs Crowson for giving us a conducted tour of the whole school. I left the school in 1956 when it was Blidworth Elementary School, the age range of the pupils being 5 - 15yrs with average class sizes between 40 and 50.
As promised, I attach a copy of a photograph of the evacuee children who attended the school during the war; the children were billeted with families in the village. On the left of the photo is Miss Olive Slicer, their class teacher at Littlehampton on the south coast, where they came from. Miss Slicer lodged with my parents on Haywood Avenue, all before I was born. The photo was taken near where your new allotment is situated, with properties on Belle Vue Lane in the background. I hope your children find the photo interesting with their WWll project work.
Please let me know if you have any difficulty opening the picture file or printing it and I will obtain a copy print and forward it to you.
