It has been a terrific Autumn Term at Blidworth Oaks and I sincerely hope your children have enjoyed it as much as we have.

    Christmas Performances

What a privilege it was to watch the Lower School production of The Grinch and the Foundation Production of Whoopsy Daisy Angel. The children looked and sounded superb and had clearly put a lot of effort into it. What’s more, they had huge smiles on their faces! Well done children and thank you for coming to support these events.

    High 5 Rewards

The High 5 Reward afternoon and Camp were a great success. At the children’s request, we hired a huge bouncy castle and inflatable obstacle course (both pictured) for them to enjoy. Please remember, the competition for next term’s High 5 has already started. The same rules apply—please see our website for details.

    Goodbyes

We have said goodbye today to two members of our staff team. Phil is a well known member of staff who has spent the last six years at the school. He will be sorely missed and we wish him all the best for the future. Another member of staff leaving us, often unseen in school, is our Head Cook, Louise Ashmore. Louise has worked at the school for 24 years and has overseen so many changes over the years. An amazing achievement; thank you for all that you have done for the school and, again, we wish her the very best for the future.

7th January—First Day Back and Learning Carousels

The first day back at school is Monday the 7th January 2019 for the majority of school, including Little Acorns. The only exception to this is our F1 (nursery children) who will be starting back on Tuesday the 8th January.

On the first day back (7th January) Classes 3-14 will be holding learning carousels for family members to come along and join in with as we launch our children’s new topics. Please come to the main entrance for 1.30pm.

Finally, thank you so much for the electronic Bingo Machine that I was given to day as a present in assembly! What a surprise! Hopefully you will see this on it’s first outing at the Big Family Breakfast on the first Friday back. Merry Christmas to all of our Blidworth Oaks Community and a very happy 2019.

    Fantastic Finishes

There have been some incredible fantastic finishes to children’s topics this week. Foundation had a biscuit making and hot chocolate session to celebrate the end of their ‘What happens when I fall asleep?’ topic. Lower School had a very, very, very messy Monday to end their ‘Muck, Mess and Mixtures’ topic. Middle School had their very own Viking day today! And Upper School showcased their learning in an Egyptian Museum on Tuesday afternoon. It’s great to see our children enjoying their topics so much!

    Coming Up Next Week

Foundation and Lower School Productions (Tuesday and Thursday AM and PM)

I hope you are as excited as I am about seeing the Foundation and Lower School Productions next week. The children and staff have worked really hard to make these special for you. Please remember, you do need a ticket to attend these events and these have gone home with your children today if you have requested them. Please contact the school office if you do not receive your tickets or if you have any questions.

    Party Day—Friday 21st December

We have Party Day on Friday where all children get the chance to wear their party clothes and Christmas jumpers if they wish. On this day children will be having Christmas dinner (if it has been booked) and party games in class, followed by a pantomime in our Sports Hall in the afternoon.

Big Family Carol Concert—3.20pm Friday 21st December

Please come and join us for a short festive sing-a-long on the last day at school. We will be gathering outside the new main entrance from 3.15pm. Foundation children can be collected early if you would like to join in. All staff will be there and the school choir will be there to carry the singing! Free mince pies to all that attend!

    End of Term Assembly

As always, we will be holding our end of term assembly at 9.10am on Friday 21st December. This assembly is welcome to all parents whose child has completed the Reading Challenge this term as we will be reading out a list of all the children who have completed the Reading Challenge. These children will also get the chance to choose a free book at some point during the morning as a prize for their efforts.

We will also be saying a goodbye to Phil in this assembly and Phil will be around afterwards to speak to anyone who would like to pass on their well wishes.

    Other Events

    · Wednesday 19th December—High 5 Reward Afternoon and Camp

    · Thursday 20th December—Choir Singing at Kings Mill

    Staffing News

It is with sadness that I announce that Phil will be leaving his post at the school from the end of this term. Phil has been a Learning Mentor at the school for 6 years and his role in school with be sorely missed by all pupils, parents and staff. We thank you him for all of his incredible work and sincerely wish him the best for the future.

Please be assured that our commitments to after school clubs, extra curricular sports and the BOPZONE will continue. They are an essential part of our school ethos. Please bare with us why we take time to recruit the right personnel in order to take these things forwards into the future.

In other staffing news, Mrs Dawson (Foundation Stage Teacher—Class 2) has announced she is expecting her first baby due in March/April 2019. I am sure you will join me in sending Mrs and Mr Dawson our congratulations! A letter has been sent home to class 2 today.

    Tea With Santa

We had a fantastic Tea with Santa fundraising event on Thursday after school for our Foundation and Lower School pupils, including a visit from ‘the big man in red himself’ in our school grotto! Thank you once again to our fantastic Friends of Blidworth Oaks Fundraising group for putting together a super event. and thank you to the staff for staying behind to support it.

    Nottingham Panthers Family Event

Several of our school families attended an event ran by the Nottingham Panthers this week. This involved a back stage tour, a chance to ice skate and free tickets to a Panthers match!

    Football

We took an A and a B team to an EfL Football Tournament ran by Mansfield Town this week. Both teams did incredibly well but unfortunately we did not qualify to progress any further in the competition. Well done to all those who took part and in particular to Louie and Kye for their player of the tournament performances for our teams.

    Christmas Jumpers

Just a reminder that our school Christmas Jumper day will be on the 21st December (the last day of school term). Children will be able to wear their Christmas Jumpers (or any other Christmas clothes if you haven't got a jumper) on this day. If you haven't yet seen our Christmas programme of events, please drop into the office for a copy or find them on our website.

    Reading Challenge/High 5 Reward

The cut off date for this term’s High 5 Reward and Reading Challenge was today. Letters for children who have successfully completed the High 5 challenge this term will be out later next week. If your challenge hasn't managed the challenge this time around, please support us by reminding them that not everyone can achieve it every term. We run this challenge and reward three times a year!
