  • Mesage from Mr Walker

    Fri 23 Nov 2018

    Hello everyone

    Children in Need

An amazing £365 was raised at our Children In Need day last Friday. What a brilliant effort by our children and families. Thank you so much for your donations.

    Handball

We took our very first Handball Team, captained by Lily and Leland, to Newark Academy this week for a district Handball tournament and came out fourth overall after narrowly losing on penalties in the semi finals. What a super achievement in a new sport for us. All the children’s efforts in the after school handball club have paid off.

    Cross Country

We took our largest sports team ever out this week when 38 children from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 competed in a Cross Country Event at the Dukeries Academy in Ollerton. Our children’s attitudes were brilliant in the freezing weather. A massive congratulations to Lily M and Sophia W (both in Year 4) who qualified for the Nottinghamshire County Year 5 & 6 Finals! Good look to the usual Cross Country team this weekend who have a winter league event at Berry Hill.

    HT Coffee Morning

A big thank you for those who managed to attend the HT Coffee Morning on Thursday. We discussed many school issues including future school developments, parking, transition and a future school Facebook page amongst other things. If you would like to know more, please feel free to come and chat to me or you will find the minutes of this meeting will be available on our website early next week.

    Blidworth Christmas Lights Switch On—Tomorrow

If you are attending the Blidworth Christmas Lights Switch On event tomorrow, please look out for our school choir who will be delivering their first performance of many over the festive period. Good luck!

    Cold Weather Clothing

Please could you make sure your child has the correct clothing with them at school as the cold weather draws in, such as jumpers and coats etc.

    Have a great weekend!

    Liberia Fundraising Update

Congratulations to Phil, his wife Sue and the many donations received from Blidworth Oaks’ children and families. You managed to raise the 1000 US Dollars needed to fund new books for children at the LREC school in Liberia yet again! What fantastic achievement! The LREC school have sent Blidworth Oaks some level messages of thanks and I would personally like to say how proud I am of you all.

    Remembrance

I was incredibly proud and moved by the respect our children showed in our remembrance events last week. Following on from activities in class as part of our Values Day, we came together in assembly for a two minutes silence at 11am last Friday, attended also by many parents. We also had three members of Year 6 and our very own Mrs Froggatt represent us and lay a wreath on behalf of our school at the Blidworth remembrance ceremony on Sunday. What an amazing school community we are!

    Football Updates

There have been several football matches over the last few weeks for girls and boys. Well done to all of those involved. Our next football related events are the trip to watch England play Croatia at Wembley this weekend and then we enter two teams into the Mansfield Town EFL Tournament.

Blidworth Girls 1 vs 1 West Park Academy

Blidworth Boys (Senior Team) 4 vs 3 Heathlands

    Blidworth Girls B 0 vs 1 Halam B

    Blidworth Girls A 5 vs 4 Halam A (Penalties)

Blidworth Boys (Junior Team) 1 vs 0 The Forest View Academy

    Visit from MP Mark Spencer

Our school Gardening Club and Chairs of the School Parliament met with MP Mark Spencer to plant a new tree at the school, part of the Queens Commonwealth Canopy and donated by the Woodland Trust. The birch tree has been planted next to our chickens and will provide some much needed shade in the future.

    Anti Bullying Week

We wore ‘odd socks’ to school Monday this week to celebrate the start of Anti Bullying Week and in order to better understand the key message of accepting diversity within our school and society. We have been revisiting key anti bullying messages all week and our school parliament delivered their very own anti bullying assembly on Monday.

    Children in Need

Once again we have supported this great charity—Children in Need. Our children (and staff) have been at school all day in their pyjamas and, through donations, have managed to raise what looks to be close to £300. Well done everyone!

    Opening the New Park

Anyone who made our Easter Fair last year may have contributed to the design of the new park next to the gym in Blidworth. Our Integrity children were invited by the Parish Council to the official opening this week and they loved the new equipment!

    Girls’ Football

Two girls football tournaments took place this week. Our Y3/4 team entered a Year 6 tournament which was, as you might expect, very tough!. Their spirit was superb though and well done to Sophia for player of the match. The Year 6 team had an excellent tournament, narrowly missing out on a semi final place. Well done to Izzie as the player of that tournament!

    Halloween Disco

A HUGE thank you once again to our Friends of Blidworth Oaks Parents Committee who organised our Halloween Disco fundraiser on Wednesday evening this week for Middle and Upper School. The children loved it in their brilliant costumes (and the staff!). Foundation and Lower School will have their own Christmas fundraising event in December.

    Y3 Residential

Year 3 have spent the last two days in Sherwood Forest enjoying their residential event, staying overnight at the Youth Hostel there. When I visited them last night, their highlight so far had been the trip to the fair!

    Fantastic Finishes

Wow! What brilliant ways to finish our latest topics! Foundation enjoyed their Halloween events; Lower School held a dinosaur exhibition; Middle School had their Charlie and the Chocolate Factory dress-up day; and Upper School finished with a Victorian Day, roping many parents into school to help with sewing and baking! Brilliant!

Have a great half term everyone

What a great week it has been! I was so proud of our children today for supporting our Value of INCLUSION and the Show Racism the Red Card campaign by wearing something red in school. You are inspirational Blidworth Oaks!

    Tag Rugby - District Finals

After making the Tag Rugby Newark and Sherwood District finals, our Tag Rugby team came fourth overall in the district! What an amazing achievement and well done to Ethan on his player of the tournament award. Wow!

    Girls’ Football

The second league game of the season against Broomhill Primary saw our girls come out narrow 1-0 losers this week. Keep going girls you still put in a resilient performance!

School Allotment of the Year 2018!

In case you missed it, we were awarded the School Allotment of the Year 2018 for the East Midlands by the National Allotment Association! Chairman of the Allotment Association, Adam Murphy, came into our celebration assembly today and presented the award, along with £250 worth of vouchers, to Rachel and Jack from Year 5—two of our longest serving gardeners. This is a brilliant achievement that comes down to the hard work and dedication of our children and the support they get from volunteers as well. The trophy can now be seen displayed in the main entrance!

Have a great weekend everyone. I hope those children attending the Nottingham Forest Football Coaching Session at our school tomorrow enjoy that great experience!

    Football

In the first league match of the season, Blidworth Oaks lost 5-3 to an excellent Hawthorne side. A great performance was put in by our team though and, in particular, Leo as player of the match.

    Cross Country

Our runners overcame terrible conditions in the cross country league at Berry Hill last Saturday. Their attitudes and spirit remained in-tact and we look set for a good season at cross country. Well done children!

    Tag Rugby

A last minute Tag Rugby team was put together for a Newark and Sherwood tournament this week with some children only learning the rules as they travelled to the venue! However, being the only team from the Joseph Whitaker area to enter a team, we came out district winners and progress to the county finals. I am so proud of our children for stepping into this at the last minute!

    Sporting Experiences

We have had two trips out this week to watch England play football. Firstly to watch the England Women’s team beat Brazil 1-0 and then last night to watch the U21 team beat Andorra 7-0! Our children’s support and behaviour was reported as impeccable as usual!

    SEND Parents Meeting

Please don’t forget the parents/carers group for parents of children with any sort of special educational needs or disabilities. They are due to meet first thing on Tuesday morning. Please come to the school office. This is a growing group of supportive parents and all newcomers will be very welcome!

    Class Photos

Please remember that we are having class photos on Monday! Combs and smiles at the ready!

    Have a great weekend!

    Safe Parking Poster Competition

Thank you to all the entries into our Safe Parking Poster Competition that we set over the summer break. Our winning design (pictured) is by Robyn from Year 6 who wins a new scooter. All the entries have received Value Points and a special mention goes to Alice and Jasper who were close runners up. It is so important that we get the message about safe and respectful parking around our school at drop off and pick up times. We are continuing to speak with the Parish Council and local police on this issue with the aim of meeting with Newark and Sherwood District Council to discuss traffic/parking measures and proposals. We will keep you informed. Thanks to everyone for their support with it.

    Boys Football

Well done to our development team who took on St. Mary’s Primary this week in a friendly match. They lost 2-0 in the end but put in valiant performance. Well done to man of the match—Junior. Good luck to the Year 6 team in their first league match of the season, playing at home against Hawthorne Primary after school today.

    Cross Country

Several boys and girls (pictured) from Y4-6 represented the school at cross country last Saturday morning. Ewan and Sophia were our best boy and girl finishers with our highest team being our girls who came 6th out of 16 teams —a great result! They go again at Berry Hill this weekend. The cross country team is open to all children in Y4-6, they just need an adult to get them there on a Saturday morning. Please speak to Phil if you are interested.

    Houses of Parliament

Year 6 went to visit the Houses of Parliament last Friday—a super experience! While in London they also visited Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard, Downing Street, Horse Guards Parade, lunch in St James’ Park, Trafalgar Square and even Hamleys! Our Year 6 children were superb in the bustling and busy environment of our capital city. Well done!

    No Pens Wednesday

The whole school celebrated No Pens Wednesday this week—a national event that raises awareness of the importance of speaking and listening and people who may have communication difficulties. We always enjoy raising awareness of these things with our children.

    BOPZONE

A great start to BOPZONE clubs this week – thanks for continuing to support these. There are still a few places left so contact a member of staff if you would like to know about these. Thank you for supporting us with the new access routine with our security fences. I am sure you can appreciate that, while inconvenient, this helps to make our grounds more secure while outdoor clubs are taking place.

    Upper School Monkey Bars

Now the winter weather is set to arrive, we will be closing our monkey bars on the Upper School playground in a morning. This area can get extremely slippery and is unsupervised before school starts. Thank you for your support with this. The area will still be used and supervised as usual at playtimes and lunchtimes when the ground has thawed.

    Boccia

Well done to our three Boccia teams that entered the tournament this week at Joseph Whitaker school. There were 17 teams and we came 4th 5th and 6th. Well done!

Year 6 Trip to the Houses of Parliament

Year 6 set off for London very early this morning to be given a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament. They also plan to take in the sights of Buckingham Palace, Downing Street and Trafalgar Square amongst others.

    No Pens Day – Wednesday

This Wednesday is No Pens Day – a national event where we put down our pens and pencils in order to understand all different forms of communication that exist in the world and, in particular, to understand what it is like for those who find communication difficult. The school day will be the same as normal but all of our lessons will be free of pens and pencils!

Good luck to the Y5&6 Cross Country Team this weekend!

Welcome back everyone! We have had an amazing start to the school year—superb working attitudes and over 2500 Value Points!

Congratulations Miss Winfield and Welcome Mr Punni

You may have noticed a change in our PE teachers already this year. We are delighted and very proud to inform you that Miss Winfield has now started her adoption leave! We wish her all the very best and hope to see her and baby soon! We are very lucky that Mr Punni has stepped into the role so quickly and efficiently and I am sure you will make him very welcome at our school.

    Girls Football

Girls football has already started with a BANG!There were three girls events this week: a mini friendly tournament against Sutton Road School; a 1-1 draw against Kingsway in the first league match of the season; and a 2-1 win for our Y5 girls against St. Mary’s in Edwinstowe. What a brilliant start! It is the turn of the boys next.

    TLCs

It was great to see so many of you at the TLCs this week. We always do these meetings early to give you a chance to meet your child’s new teacher and discuss plans for the year.

    BOPZONE

BOPZONE Starts up again Monday (Please note: Wednesday clubs start the following week). We do still have some spare spaces—please call in at the office. If you are unsure of which club your child is in, contact any member of staff who can find this out for you. I hope everyone enjoys this great club offer!
