At Blidworth Oaks we want all children to develop a lifelong love of reading and we try to nurture this enthusiasm in a variety of ways.

• Throughout school, children are immersed in good quality texts or poems on a daily basis. Reading and listening to quality texts is not only an enjoyable thing to do, but it also widens children’s vocabulary and understanding. It also enables children to write in a more sophisticated manner, through exposure to more varied sentence structures and adventurous ideas for plots and characters.
• We further encourage our children to read for pleasure by offering access to a large selection of popular, engaging books for them to take home to enjoy.
• Finally, each year group is assigned a list of ‘Read Before You Leave’ texts, where the intent is to broaden literary experiences in an age appropriate way.
