    Dear Parents/Carers
It’s the end of another year at Blidworth Oaks and once again we are looking back over the year with pride. Just a few things left to catch you up on:
    Sports Day Champions
We managed to complete Sports Day eventually! Thank you to everyone who came to support our mini sports day on Monday. Every child who competed in a sports day event has earned points for their house. All of the points have been added together and we can reveal that the House who are this year’s Sports Day Champions are HAZEL HOUSE!
We know there are still some children in Years 4-6 who have not received sports day medals. These have been ordered and we will make sure all children receive them. This was due to an ordering error by the head teacher… ooops! Apologies to all of those children but I will make sure you get those medals!!!
    Sports Award...GOLD!!!
For the fifth year running our school has been awarded a GOLD school games award! This award is for schools who teach and partici-pate in a wide range of sports. It is an incredibly difficult award for primary schools to achieve so we are extremely proud to have been awarded this for five years in a row.
    End of Year Assemblies
It has been great to see so many people at our end of year assemblies. Reading, Writing, Maths, Values, Arts, Sports—We have given out over 150 trophies and medals throughout the awards. We are so proud of the children’s achievements this year.
    Goodbye Year 6
Once again we say goodbye to our Year 6 children. This year 6 have really been terrific. They have led by example, completing their roles with seriousness and reliability. They have also achieved our highest SATs scores yet. You have got such exciting futures ahead Year 6. We hope you all keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.
    New Parent Governors
We have had a great response to our Parent Governor elections earlier this term. Thank you to all those who nominated themselves and to everyone who voted—our turnout was much better than normal. I am pleased to announce that Mrs Helen Pritchett and Mr John Taylor will be joining our governing body once we return in September.
Holiday Club—You can book at any time!
Please don’t forget that we have childcare provision available at school for the first four weeks of the summer holidays—Monday to Friday 7.30am to 6pm. Sessions can be booked through your school gateway app or by calling the club direct on 01623 791966 or on the club mobile on 07716146174.
    Contacting us during the Summer
Although the school office is now closed for the summer, you can still contact us. You can contact us by email on office@blidworthoaks.notts.sch.uk or through our Facebook page, Blidworth Oaks Primary School. We may not get back to you straight away but we will as soon as we can. The office will reopen for business again during the INSET days in September.
    Have a fantastic summer everyone

    Dear Parents/Carers

A lot has been happening over the past few weeks as we enter the final stages of this academic year. Please make a note of all of the remaining school dates (see list).

    House Champions 2019—BRINSLEY!!!!!

Brinsley House were named as House champions for the second year running. This was thoroughly deserved as they have topped the leader board throughout the year despite having less children! They were rewarded with a trip to Alton Towers today. They were also joined on the trip by the children who collected the most Value Points from the remaining Houses; well done the Rachel P from Hazel, Izzie M from Abdy and Grace G from Blackshale.

    Tri Golf Champions

For the fifth year running our Tri Golf Team have been awarded the Gold Medal position for the district Tri Golf Tournament that took place this week! What an achievement! They will now go on to represent the school at the County Games Finals next Friday in Nottingham! Good luck golfers!

Mansfield Town Football Club Y5&6 Girls’ Tournament—Winners (Pictured Right)

Another huge congratulations to the girls football team who came out champions at the recent MTFC football tournament at the RH Academy. They will receive their medals and trophy in an assembly on Friday 12th July.

Quad Kids Athletics (Pictured Right Below)

We achieved our highest position in an athletics competition ever when we took a Year 4&5 team to the district Quad Kids Athletics tournament last week. They have worked so hard for this and achieved a superb position out of the ten schools who made it to the tournament.

    School Fete

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our school Fete this year—particularly to the parents and staff who gave up their time to organise, set up and run the event. We raised just over £1000 which will all go towards our new mini bus!

New Class Days— Wednesday 3rd and 10th July

Please don’t forget New Class Days on the 3rd and 10th July where children will get the chance to spend the day with their new class teachers in order to help prepare them for September. Children will still enter and leave school via their usual doors and their normal classrooms. Please also don’t forget about the New Class Meetings at 3.30pm on the 10th July—all family members welcome.

    The sunshine is back!

The warm weather is back and hopefully here to stay. Please remember to send your children with clothing suitable for the weather. Children will need sun hats. Ideally children will put on long lasting sun cream before they come to school. We also keep children out of direct sunlight for long periods. But if you do decide to send your child with sun-cream, please ensure this is labelled with your child’s name. Children will be expected to apply their own sun-cream—please talk to your child’s class teacher if you feel they are unable to do this.

    Hello Everyone

    Sing Up 2019

The annual ‘Sing Up’ concert was held in our Sports Hall this year where we hosted the choirs, representatives and parents from BOPS, Heathlands, Abbey Gates, Ravenshead C of E and Python Hill, as well as orchestra members from Joseph Whitaker. It was a brilliant occasion with the choirs sounding magnificent! Our choir put so much effort and gave so much time to get their performances right so we are very proud of them.

    Mother’s Day Dinners

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I hope all mums (or any other family member if mum can’t make it) have managed to book onto the Mother’s Day Dinners next week. Dinners will be held across the week for different phases and years groups of school (F2 to Year 6). Please check at the office for times or availability.

Easter Holidays - Holiday Club/Football Camp

There are still places available for the Holiday Club during the Easter holidays, open 7.30am-6pm every day (excl. bank holidays) for children aged 3-11. You can book through the school gateway or through the school office. The club is also open to children who do not attend this school.

The Blidworth Bengals are holding another two days of football camps on the 16th and 17th April (10am-3pm) using our school hall, MUGA and sports field. As before they have offered our children (year 2-6) a special price of £10 per day. Please contact the school office if you are interested in a place.

    Full House Bingo Night

The Friends of Blidworth Oaks Primary School (FOBOPS) are holding a ‘Full House’ Bingo fundraising evening to help raise funds for a school minibus. The event will take place on the evening of Friday the 29th March and is an adult only event. There will be a licensed bar available. Please contact the school office to book a ticket before they all sell out!

    Have a great weekend!

    Holiday Club/Childcare

Hopefully you all received a letter regarding our new childcare provision for school holidays starting this February half term. Initially we are starting this for children aged 4-11 but, if successful, we will look at rolling this provision out to younger age groups. Please see our school website or call our school office for more details.

    Y5&6 Futsal Tournament

We entered a Futsal team into the district tournament this week and came a fantastic second place! This was mixed boy and girl team and they worked superbly together to achieve a great result. Well done! There is a Year 3&4 Futsal Tournament taking place next week.

    Y1 Multi-Skills Festival

Year 1 travelled to Joseph Whitaker School this week for a Multi-Skills Festival—some of our children are pictured overcoming the balancing beams!. Their attitudes towards sports were excellent and we have some budding sports stars of the future in that group!

    IJump PE Sessions

Next Tuesday we have IJump PE sessions taking place in school for Years 1-4 so please can you make sure children have their PE kits in school for that.

    Parent SEND Meeting

Our next parents meeting for parents of children with additional needs is set for the next Thursday 31st January at 9am. This is an informal meeting to provide support networks, signpost to services and provide feedback to school on how we can better meet the needs of pupils with additional needs. All existing and new members are welcome. Please come to the school office.

    Happy New Year!

I hope all of our Blidworth Oaks community had a great Christmas and New Year!

We have flown straight into our new topics across school for this term. It was a good to see many of you at our learning carousels in Years 1-6 on the first day back to join in with launching our new topics. If you haven't received a copy of your child’s topic newsletter yet, then please see your child’s class teacher.

    Termly Learning Celebrations

It was one of our best turn outs for our TLCs —despite some dodgy weather! Thank you to everyone who came along. If you haven't managed to get a TLC with your child’s class teacher yet, please contact the school office or your child’s teacher directly and we’ll get one arranged for you.

    Questionnaires

Thank you to everyone who completed a questionnaire at the TLCs. The positive response on the questionnaires is quite simply overwhelming along with some excellent suggestions and ideas as well. We intend to analyse these over the next few weeks and we will hold our next Head Teacher Coffee Morning to discuss the questionnaire responses. If you haven't yet managed to complete a questionnaire, please call into our school office before next Friday 25th January.

    Sports

Well done to the Y6 football team who were unfortunately knocked out of the second round of the cup last week. Leen Mills were excellent opposition but our children battled on with an outstanding performance from Louie in goal and Rey in midfield.

We also sent a 16 person team along to a Sports Hall Athletics tournament this week. We didn't progress to the district finals but, despite a lack of training, our children put in some excellent performances, particularly in the sprint events. Well done all!

    Facebook

You may already have seen our new school Facebook page—Blidworth Oaks Primary School. Please like our page as we will be developing this further in the coming weeks to celebrate some of the things happening in our school and to keep you informed of upcoming events.

It has been a terrific Autumn Term at Blidworth Oaks and I sincerely hope your children have enjoyed it as much as we have.

    Christmas Performances

What a privilege it was to watch the Lower School production of The Grinch and the Foundation Production of Whoopsy Daisy Angel. The children looked and sounded superb and had clearly put a lot of effort into it. What’s more, they had huge smiles on their faces! Well done children and thank you for coming to support these events.

    High 5 Rewards

The High 5 Reward afternoon and Camp were a great success. At the children’s request, we hired a huge bouncy castle and inflatable obstacle course (both pictured) for them to enjoy. Please remember, the competition for next term’s High 5 has already started. The same rules apply—please see our website for details.

    Goodbyes

We have said goodbye today to two members of our staff team. Phil is a well known member of staff who has spent the last six years at the school. He will be sorely missed and we wish him all the best for the future. Another member of staff leaving us, often unseen in school, is our Head Cook, Louise Ashmore. Louise has worked at the school for 24 years and has overseen so many changes over the years. An amazing achievement; thank you for all that you have done for the school and, again, we wish her the very best for the future.

7th January—First Day Back and Learning Carousels

The first day back at school is Monday the 7th January 2019 for the majority of school, including Little Acorns. The only exception to this is our F1 (nursery children) who will be starting back on Tuesday the 8th January.

On the first day back (7th January) Classes 3-14 will be holding learning carousels for family members to come along and join in with as we launch our children’s new topics. Please come to the main entrance for 1.30pm.

Finally, thank you so much for the electronic Bingo Machine that I was given to day as a present in assembly! What a surprise! Hopefully you will see this on it’s first outing at the Big Family Breakfast on the first Friday back. Merry Christmas to all of our Blidworth Oaks Community and a very happy 2019.

    Fantastic Finishes

There have been some incredible fantastic finishes to children’s topics this week. Foundation had a biscuit making and hot chocolate session to celebrate the end of their ‘What happens when I fall asleep?’ topic. Lower School had a very, very, very messy Monday to end their ‘Muck, Mess and Mixtures’ topic. Middle School had their very own Viking day today! And Upper School showcased their learning in an Egyptian Museum on Tuesday afternoon. It’s great to see our children enjoying their topics so much!

    Coming Up Next Week

Foundation and Lower School Productions (Tuesday and Thursday AM and PM)

I hope you are as excited as I am about seeing the Foundation and Lower School Productions next week. The children and staff have worked really hard to make these special for you. Please remember, you do need a ticket to attend these events and these have gone home with your children today if you have requested them. Please contact the school office if you do not receive your tickets or if you have any questions.

    Party Day—Friday 21st December

We have Party Day on Friday where all children get the chance to wear their party clothes and Christmas jumpers if they wish. On this day children will be having Christmas dinner (if it has been booked) and party games in class, followed by a pantomime in our Sports Hall in the afternoon.

Big Family Carol Concert—3.20pm Friday 21st December

Please come and join us for a short festive sing-a-long on the last day at school. We will be gathering outside the new main entrance from 3.15pm. Foundation children can be collected early if you would like to join in. All staff will be there and the school choir will be there to carry the singing! Free mince pies to all that attend!

    End of Term Assembly

As always, we will be holding our end of term assembly at 9.10am on Friday 21st December. This assembly is welcome to all parents whose child has completed the Reading Challenge this term as we will be reading out a list of all the children who have completed the Reading Challenge. These children will also get the chance to choose a free book at some point during the morning as a prize for their efforts.

We will also be saying a goodbye to Phil in this assembly and Phil will be around afterwards to speak to anyone who would like to pass on their well wishes.

    Other Events

    · Wednesday 19th December—High 5 Reward Afternoon and Camp

    Staffing News

It is with sadness that I announce that Phil will be leaving his post at the school from the end of this term. Phil has been a Learning Mentor at the school for 6 years and his role in school with be sorely missed by all pupils, parents and staff. We thank you him for all of his incredible work and sincerely wish him the best for the future.

Please be assured that our commitments to after school clubs, extra curricular sports and the BOPZONE will continue. They are an essential part of our school ethos. Please bare with us why we take time to recruit the right personnel in order to take these things forwards into the future.

In other staffing news, Mrs Dawson (Foundation Stage Teacher—Class 2) has announced she is expecting her first baby due in March/April 2019. I am sure you will join me in sending Mrs and Mr Dawson our congratulations! A letter has been sent home to class 2 today.

    Tea With Santa

We had a fantastic Tea with Santa fundraising event on Thursday after school for our Foundation and Lower School pupils, including a visit from ‘the big man in red himself’ in our school grotto! Thank you once again to our fantastic Friends of Blidworth Oaks Fundraising group for putting together a super event. and thank you to the staff for staying behind to support it.

    Nottingham Panthers Family Event

Several of our school families attended an event ran by the Nottingham Panthers this week. This involved a back stage tour, a chance to ice skate and free tickets to a Panthers match!

    Football

We took an A and a B team to an EfL Football Tournament ran by Mansfield Town this week. Both teams did incredibly well but unfortunately we did not qualify to progress any further in the competition. Well done to all those who took part and in particular to Louie and Kye for their player of the tournament performances for our teams.

    Christmas Jumpers

Just a reminder that our school Christmas Jumper day will be on the 21st December (the last day of school term). Children will be able to wear their Christmas Jumpers (or any other Christmas clothes if you haven't got a jumper) on this day. If you haven't yet seen our Christmas programme of events, please drop into the office for a copy or find them on our website.

    Reading Challenge/High 5 Reward

The cut off date for this term’s High 5 Reward and Reading Challenge was today. Letters for children who have successfully completed the High 5 challenge this term will be out later next week. If your challenge hasn't managed the challenge this time around, please support us by reminding them that not everyone can achieve it every term. We run this challenge and reward three times a year!

    Hello everyone

    Jingle Jog

Year 4 and 5 took part in a ‘Jingle Jog’ around Sherwood Pines on Monday morning alongside hundreds of children from school across the area. Dressed in Christmas hats (photo) they jogged their way around a hilly, woodland route in the winter sunshine as part of the ‘Race for Life’.

    Year 6 Residential

Most of Year 6 have been on Residential this week to Whitmore Lakes Adventure Centre in Staffordshire (Photos). They have been having an amazing time climbing, abseiling and taking part in Archery and Fencing to name just a few of the activities. A huge thank you to the staff/volunteers who have been with them and supported this trip.

    Choir—Blidworth Lights Switch On

Our choir set off on their first performance of the festive season last weekend when they performed at the Blidworth Lights Switch On event. They have put in such a lot of rehearsal time, both at Choir club and playtimes, and I do hope you get the chance to hear them at one of their many festive performances in the coming weeks. Well done children for representing our school and doing us proud!

    Cross Country

Our Cross Country girls and boys teams were out again last weekend at Berry Hill Park to compete in the Winter League. Another soggy, wintery event didn't get the children down or affect the turnout. There is one more event of the Winter League left at Wollaton Park on the 8th December.

    High 5/Reading Challenge

Please be aware that the cut off date for this term’s Reading Challenge and the High 5 Reward is next Friday 7th December (details on our website). So get those extra reads in and collect as many Value Points as you can. Also, don’t forget that the Spring Term challenges start immediately the following week (week beginning the 10th December) so don’t get caught out with that!

    Have a great weekend
